Richmond Walking & Book Festival 2013

Books and boots, walks and words… 21-29 September 2013

The Richmond Walking & Book Festival has a special invitation for U3A Members to come and join us for ten days of book events and guided walks in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

You may already have read about the Festival in the competition section of the June edition of Third Age Matters (pg 56).

Our 9th Festival is packed with opportunities to inspire and invigorate you, literally from head to toe!

Be inspired: meet celebrated authors and discover new ones. You will engage in a full programme of evening and weekend book events. Come and enjoy an evening in conversation with crime writer Mark Billingham, ‘Spy Night’ with Sinclair McKay and Roger Hermiston, and an opportunity to join Gervase Phinn for afternoon tea.

Be invigorated: explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in autumn. Amblers, ramblers and serious walkers will all enjoy daily walks led by friendly, local guides. The Festival also includes orienteering, mountain bike trails and cycle rides, including the northern loop of the Tour de France route. You are free to mix activities to create a bespoke programme; undertaking a strenuous walk through Swaledale one day and the next, a more gentile historical stroll around Richmond, perhaps meeting up later with friends who have completed a stage of the relaunched Swale Way.

This unique mix of day time activities and interesting evening entertainment is all based within the picturesque and historic market town of Richmond.

The full programme is on our website www.booksandboots.org so please have a look and start planning your September break in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

If you do come along to any of the Festival activities or events, please make yourself known as a U3A member, we do look forward to welcoming you.
