Please do not just read and think this does not apply to me! Give consideration to using your expertise for the benefit of our U3A — it is a vital and rewarding way of serving our membership.
Together with Ruth Townrow and David Masterman, I attended the first AGM of the Yorkshire and Humberside Region. (YAHR). Mrs. Anne Firth, the YAHR Trustee and member of the National Executive, was in attendance.
The following officers were elected —
Chairman Derrick Franks (Doncaster)
Vice Chairman David Wright (Ryedale)
Secretary Mrs. Christine Ball (Leeds)
Five members had been nominated to serve on the Committee and were elected en bloc. There are two vacancies.
Ian Searle, Chairman of the 3rd Age Trust, gave an interesting presentation. In discussion with Age UK, plans are afoot to initiate a programme to cater for 4th Agers, to include those in Nursing Homes.
Group Leaders please note that the Resource Centre is growing in content.
Terry Hardie, the National Treasurer, informed us that the Subscription to National Office is to be increased to £3.50. It is nine years since it was last increased. There is to be some National funding for the Regional Meetings.
The meeting was informed that the Ridings Forum has "morphed" into YAHR.
To mark our 20 years David Masterman and his groups are planning a celebration to take place next year. We do hope we can count on your support and any suggestions as to the format of an event would be most welcome
