We are a small group and unless there are more folk showing an interest in this art I may have to close the group.
We have been meeting once a month, but I am now able to give time fortnightly so the next meeting will be on January 22nd. The meetings take place at my home, 6 Valley Mount, alternate Fridays from 2 to 4pm. We have as yet got no permanent teacher but a person with a good knowledge of Calligraphy has agreed to help when she can. Diana is a good and patient teacher with a love of calligraphy.
We give advice on the pen, paper and ink necessary for the craft and for the next few meetings will be concentrating on learning and perfecting the Italic script.
Please come and join us. It is not an easy craft to learn but has many uses.
Any one interested in joining please contact

Several U3A members have applied to the Croquet Section in the hope that some will be able to join the club this spring.
Those who have applied can rest assured that their applications are listed, and each will receive a letter in March, which will outline plans for U3A Section introductory sessions at the Bishop Monkton Club in late April/early May. Places will be offered according to the number of vacancies at the time.
For next season the club is planning to add a half size lawn to the existing two full sized lawns and also to undertake improvements to the clubhouse.

The year ended with a Christmas Party and a jolly presentation by Spellbound Productions in keeping with the party season
In January we had to cancel the meeting for the first time since the group was founded nine years ago. We are now looking forward to getting the year started one month late.
Is this an indicator of global warming?
