An Apology from the Editor
Some deliveries of the last issue of Stray News were retained by Royal Mail and members invited to collect from Claro Road at a cost of £1.15.
The supposed reason for this was that they did not comply with the postal rate requirement. Since the weight was below the limit and most envelopes when tested passed through the slot it must be assumed either that a postal worker was being extra vigilant or air was trapped in some envelopes. After being passed around the United Kingdom the Secretary was able to speak to someone in Royal Mail and they agreed to send out any retained at no charge. The Committee agreed to reimburse any member who paid the charge.
We are sorry for any inconvenience.
I was however disappointed to learn that some members would not have paid up if they knew it was ‘only Stray News’. Not very encouraging and time for a change perhaps!

Ten Year Anniversary
The stated intention of Stray News was to improve communication within the membership, to stimulate discussion and to encourage new interest groups. We have to thank the Editors who have ensured that to a large extent it has met these aims.
Stray News was first issued in Spring 1999. The idea was proposed by Norman Easton
who became the first Editor and gave the newsletter its appropriate name. The early
contributions were sent in as handwritten or typed notes and then had to be retyped
into a computer file. Norman edited the articles and arranged them into pages by
cut and paste technology before the final computer layout was constructed. The first
issue was 4-
We have been fortunate to have had successive editors: Maurice Line, Maggie Smith and Chris Rush, who have left their mark as the journal developed. Not only have they served on the committee, formed and run successful groups, but in addition, their dedication, energy and enthusiasm meant that the magazine has carried a continuous flow of informative and interesting articles.
Hopefully Stray News will continue to prosper and members will show their appreciation and support
