In my last column I asked for some views on the way forward for Stray News. My thanks to the few who responded with comments and suggestions.
Unfortunately there were too few replies for me to use them as a basis for a policy change.
After consulting with members of the Communications Network Team I have decided to discontinue the August Issue of Stray News this year.
The November Issue will be brought forward to October and will include details of the Annual General Meeting which takes place at the end of September. The February Issue will appear as before but in order to space the Issues out there will be one in June instead of May.
Announcements of New Groups for the start of an academic year will appear as before with the papers sent out in August for the Annual General Meeting.
The other result of these changes will be that Val will no longer produce a Stray Bits in October and will not produce an Issue in those months when Stray News appears. Stray Bits is not produced in August and December and that will remain the case.
We hope this will reduce the workload on contributors, editors and distributors without diminishing the value of the publications and will also help to prevent a rise in expenditure.
