Letter to the Editor

Sir, Please can you convey the following message to the members.

I understand that as yet nobody has come forward to stand for the office of Chairman in September. It may seem a long way to September, but a new Chairman (not necessarily male) would find it advantageous to have some experience of the committee and their activities, so the sooner such a person is found the better.

It may be that a potential Chairman feels that they are too new to the U3A but new members bring new ideas and enthusiasms. It may be that members think ‘well I’ve retired now and I’m just going to sit back and do the activities I am interested in’.

But most of us have had a busy working life prior to joining. It should also be remembered that all of the Officers, Committee, Group Leaders and our communication team of Editors and Web master, who keep the U3A running, are all retired volunteers who give their time willingly and freely. Why not join them?

Volunteer for the office of Chairman now and become involved in the running of the U3A. It’s a very rewarding role, as are all of the roles within the U3A, and you’ll get to know lots of the members.

We Need You!!

David Broadley (Chairman 2003-6)
