Don’t know nuthin’
Herewith a footnote from the weekly newsletter of St. Andrew's Garrison Church, Aldershot no less
When Columbus started out he didn't know where he was going,
When he got there he didn't know where he was,
When he got back, he didn't know where he had been.
And he did it all on other people's money.
Those with teenagers will find these remarks rather familiar!

Croquet plans draw good response
Plan to do something new in 2009 – croquet is healthy, competitive, friendly and good fun.

Our plans to form a U3A Croquet Section, and promoted for the first time at the AGM, drew an excellent initial response with 27 members already saying they are keen to take part.
Because there is no croquet club in Harrogate, the plan is to link up to the newly formed Bishop Monkton Croquet Club, where U3A members would be offered membership and a chance to use the two full size lawns.
The likelihood is that there would be a £40 contribution to the croquet club for maintenance, running costs, etc (This fee is the same as the one levied by the Ilkley U3A Croquet Club) plus the £10 Harrogate U3A annual membership fee. You would have full use of all equipment, be fully involved in all club activities and have access to our pavilion, refreshments area and toilets.
You may be a beginner or have previous experience. Either way, we would offer you one or two free trial sessions next spring to see if you would like it, and if so, you will be invited to join the croquet club as a U3A member
If you become a member you would be able to play any time next year, from April to October. (By the way, reaching Bishop Monkton involves a 15 minute drive up the A61 or bus no. 56 comes into the village, with a bus stop right outside the club entrance)
If you wish to register interest, you can email the club
