Chaucer (Chaucer to computers)
The Chaucer group is a monthly discussion group (or you can just listen) for anyone interested in BOOKS, WRITING, PRINTING, (including graphics) & PUBLISHING. We may include reading and discussing a novel. We may even be discussing members own writing??
First meeting: the fourth Monday in September (Sept 22) at 2-
As this is a new group it would be a help if one or two people could meet in August at a time and date convenient either at Kettlesing or in Harrogate in order to pool ideas. If you think you could help please phone. (There would be no obligation to stay in the group if it turned out to be not what you wanted)

Following a meeting of some of the members who had shown an interest in visiting museums and galleries, going places and bus adventures, it was decided to combine these elements in a programme of visits, and see how things develop.
The first visit, to Leeds Art Gallery in May, met all these criteria! Travelling on the 36 bus, we arrived in time for coffee in the beautifully restored Victorian tiled hall, before choosing which part of the gallery we each wanted to explore. There was something for everyone, paintings by Grimshaw, Turner, Spencer……..,modern installations, political art….There wasn't time to see all that there was to see, or to visit the Henry Moore Institute. We can look forward to a further visit to Leeds in November, by which time the new City museum will also be open.
In July Skipton was the chosen destination, with the opportunity to visit the Craven Museum, Skipton Castle, the Market and to stroll along the canal.
The proposed programme for 2008/2009 is as follows:-
October, Friday 17th York Art Gallery -
November, Wednesday 19th, Leeds-
the new Leeds City Museum, or revisit the Art Gallery.
February, Thursday 19th, Bradford-
March, Friday 13th, Pateley Bridge or Ripon.
May, Saturday 16th, Harewood House
June, Saturday 20th, the Bowes Museum
Details of each visit will be advertised in Stray Bits, Stray News on the web site and at Open Meetings. There will be a named contact for each visit, but the idea is to keep the need for organisation to a minimum.
However we will be asking for an indication of interest in a trip to Bowes Museum, and a deposit, by the end of February, before making a booking.
Some members would like to go further afield eg Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool or London. If you would like to get a few like minded people together why not put a notice in Stray Bits?

The Tai Chi Philosophy
In the philosophy of Tai Chi it is said Chi (life energy)
follows the mind, each posture and movement creates a different energy flow which,
has a beneficial overall effect on our overall well being. Tai Chi stimulates circulation,
aligns the skeleton and joints correctly, stimulates the organs of the body and helps
digestion. It increases muscle tone, strength, improves balance and co ordination
and also improves breathing. Tai Chi does not just provide physical benefits, by
raising energy levels it also affects the mind and the spirit. Tai Chi is suitable
for all ages and abilities.
With this aim, a new group will start on Monday 15th September, from 4.30-
