Moving Forward

Photography Group Exhibition

We can expect our membership to grow………the baby boomers are coming!
New people bring new ideas, knowledge, skills, and experience to share. It is therefore not unreasonable to hope that new groups will form, even though there is a tendency for people to hold back from offering to start a new group.
We are floating the idea of creating the opportunity for small groups of members to meet informally as a way of enabling more members to be actively involved in what is their U3A.
You may like to meet for outings, short courses or a short series of meetings. You do not necessarily have to have an expert in the group.
Why not give it a try, and see how things progress? Two successful U3A Groups started life this way, and Ten Pin Bowling flourishes as an informal group of members.

At the Open Meeting on March 29th several suggestions were put to the members present and the response was encouraging with several being taken up - see below under “New Interest Groups Starting or Started”. On April 8th an opportunity was created for several like minded people to get together with a view to fostering their shared interests.

If you would like to share an interest in any of the following, the first step is to contact me  or Eileen Davies , or sign up at an Open Meeting.

Chess (or other games)

Crosswords/Sudoku

Out and About/Going Places
“Morning coffee”, meetings “to put the world to rights”!

International Cuisine – eating out and talks/research (?).

Modern Jazz appreciation.

Calligraphy

Growing things – allotment enthusiasts

Tai Chi

Travel Group – planning holidays for the group, which other members would be invited to join.

Computer Group for novices

Play Reading – could restart as we have discovered a source of inexpensive sets of plays.

There are members who would like to begin Spanish or Italian, and others who would like to take their knowledge further. They are hoping to find a member who can help them do this.

What are your interests? Would you like to set up a short course, get people together for a taster course, or a short series of meetings or outings.

It is proposed that we have a small sub-committee to facilitate the creation of new groups. Would you like to be involved?

I look forward to hearing from you.
