Textile Crafts (Julie Clark )
The Textile Crafts group is now meeting at Harlow Hill Methodist Church, off Otley Road, Harrogate. We meet on the fourth Monday of the month from 2 to 4 pm.
Our aims for this session are to start crewel work and a goldwork 3D rosette - however some members will continue with their personal projects and on November 26th, we are having a beading workshop. During the summer, some of us visited the Bombay Stores in Bradford where we were enthralled by the gorgeous fabrics and exotic surroundings. Some also visited the Fashion and Embroidery Show at the Showground in October and we hope to go to the Knitting and Stitching Show in November.
New members and beginners are welcome at the group but ring me first.

Theatre Group (Jean Jayne )
In September we visited the West Yorkshire Playhouse to see Midsummer Night's Dream and Leeds Grand in October to see The History Boys. In November we will be going to see Brief Encounter at the Playhouse and Sleeping Beauty at Harrogate International Centre. Our last visit before Christmas is to the Grand to see The Nutcracker Suite.
There will be a new programme at the beginning of the new year, for details of this email Harrogate U3A.

Vegetarian Cooking (Brian Elias )
The group continues to flourish with a few new members joining at the AGM and more members offering to lead walks. We have such a wonderful choice of footpaths accessible from Harrogate bus routes. On one occasion we caught the Airport bus and walked to Otley via Bramhope. There was a series of superb new stiles on part of this route but many others were not so easy. The November to February programme should have now been received by members.

Writing - Creative (P Gray )
We have started meeting again after the summer break with a spring in our step, a full house and two on a waiting list - a position we have not been in for some little time. Our homework for the September meeting 'A report, real or imaginary, from a newspaper or an editorial piece' provided much laughter and much debate. Fictitious court cases predominated, but an impassioned and well written argument railing against double standards in our throwaway society provoked so much discussion that we had to tear ourselves away to do some more writing!
Yorkshire Explorers (Richard Stobbs )
"The Yorkshire Explorers are as the name implies explorers and Yorkshire is where we explore. However we do our explorations on foot after reaching our planned destination by public transport. The distance covered is usually around 10 miles or so. The route is chosen from a map on a month by month basis and on the day we rely on map and compass reading to find our way round. This can sometimes lead to a rather challenging walk due to unexpected natural obstacles and the strange phenomenon of the disappearing footpath (it may have been re-routed or deliberately blocked or may be so underused as to be difficult to trace).
Although we try to keep up a decent pace we do make time to look at things of interest and admire the scenery if only to get a rest!
We have had some excellent walks in the Blubberhouses and Pateley bridge areas and in the lowlands round Ripon. We have encountered all kinds of weather from heavy rain (it was worth it just to see the amazing rainbow), hailstones and sunshine but have enjoyed the walks nevertheless."
