Harrogate U3A AGM and Group Open Day
“A Happy Day.”
Not a phrase you would normally associate with an AGM, but it is the way that a member summed up the event held at The Cairn Hotel on September 21st. 2007.
The atmosphere was warm, friendly, supportive and appreciative.
Many things contributed to this. The new venue was a success. The large, light, beautifully decorated Promenade Suite provided a very pleasant space for the displays and the AGM. Seating in the lounge and lobby area meant that people could relax and chat; the specially arranged lunch-menu and complimentary refreshments after the meeting encouraged people to stay longer.
The hotel staff were a pleasure to work with on the day and through the months of planning.
The displays were a delight. The wide range of activities on show meant there was something for everyone to enjoy. The
dedication and enthusiasm of the Group Leaders and helpers shone through, and there was much purposeful discussion as well as friendly chatter.
Add to this the smiles and laughter generated by the video taken during the day and on the screen by the afternoon. We can look forward to seeing Ivan’s photos on the web site.
A new member was enthusiastic about starting a group for people interested in classical music concerts, and another relatively new member agreed to come along to the next committee meeting with a view to being co-opted.
The message is getting through, that we are very fortunate to have a U3A in Harrogate and that we, the members, must ensure that it continues to flourish.
It was indeed “a happy day.”
Thank you to all who made it so.
