From the Chairman.

Another academic year draws to a close and there is much to celebrate.

Nationally this year is the 25th. Anniversary of the founding of the U3A in the UK which will be marked by an Open Day of activities from over 20 U3As from the Ridings Region at Askham Bryan on August 23rd.

Julie Clark of Harrogate U3A has become the National Network Coordinator for Textile Crafts, we wish Julie well in her new role.

Harrogate U3A has enjoyed a year of increasing membership with approaching 600 on roll. New groups have been formed – History of Art, Family History and Card Craft, and we look forward to establishing more new groups in 2007/08. There is a demand for Spanish, Italian, Archaeology and History. Do we have any potential group leaders out there?

Many of our groups have been running since the early years of Harrogate U3A with leaders who have given between 10 and 15 years of enthusiasm and expertise.

We need new people to follow their example not only as group leaders but by offering enthusiasm and expertise across a wide range of activities. Where do your talents lie? How could you help to move your U3A forward? Recent membership is no bar to getting involved! I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you to all those without whom there could be no Harrogate U3A: Group Leaders and helpers, Committee Members, members on sub-committees, the communication team – editors of Stray News and Stray Bits and our webmaster, the refreshment team, members with ideas, members who help in a crisis, and those who contribute to the groups that they join and those who have made their contribution in the past.

Best wishes for the new academic year.

Janet Coatman,

Chairman.
