From the Chairman

From the editor

The meeting of Group Leaders/Contacts and the Committee held on March 2nd. was an inspiration. With 36 groups all involved in fascinating activities and a membership approaching 600, Harrogate U3A is thriving.
A lively meeting held on January 15th, of all those involved in communication across  Harrogate U3A came up with some ideas which it is hoped have already helped to keep you in touch. We welcome Chris Rush as the new Editor of Stray News.
The Summer Event, a visit to the Fulneck Moravian Settlement on July 4th, has proved a popular option, and on August 23rd Harrogate U3A will be well represented at the Regional Open Day at Askham Bryan.
Thank you to all those who work so hard for the benefit of our members. A special thank you to Joan Murphy, a founder member of Harrogate U3A, forced by ill health to retire from the Committee, but still determined to keep the Scrabble group alive.
At present we have a full Committee but unforeseen circumstances have necessitated a reshuffle. Betty Mallinson has agreed to resume the role of Membership Secretary (while also acting as Minutes Secretary), and to continue in post for one further year, subject to election, providing an invaluable opportunity for a potential Membership Secretary to work alongside her.
At the AGM two Committee members will be retiring. We will need to elect a Vice Chairman, a Secretary and a Treasurer, and are looking for a potential Membership Secretary. Please give serious consideration to standing for the Committee and/or office. If you would like to know more about what is involved please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Dates for your Diary 2007
Harrogate U3A Summer Event, a visit to Fulneck Moravian Settlement, July 4th.
National Summer School, Chester, July 9th – 12th.
Ridings Region U3A Open Day, Askham Bryan, August 23rd. Several Groups are going to be there with displays and the Walking Group will be leading a walk.   Travelling by car seems to be the preferred option so why not take a picnic and make a day of it with a car load of friends and family. There will be plenty of  space for parking.
Harroate U3A AGM, Friday September 21st.
